The Grand Opening on 9 July, sponsored by Fidelity Investments,  was a great success, with events throughout the day attracting crowds to the centre. As well as live music and food in the Hub cafe, visitors enjoyed a concert in the church, and demonstrations by groups using the centre. On the forecourt barbecued burgers were popular, and there was more live music from 'Vocal Dimensions' and brass quartet 'Cor'.

Tony Tobin, celebrity chef and proprietor of the Dining Room, cut the special celebration cake and announced winners of the 'Reigate Rocks' junior art competition.

Photos can be seen here, and more will shortly be added.

A right royal test

Reigate Community Centre had its new facilities put to the test on Thursday (April 28) when 50 people joined in a Royal lunch party.

The building had only been opened two days before a team of volunteers cooked up a feast fit for a king, including Prince William’s favourite dessert, chocolate biscuit gateau.

The event was held to raise money for the Methodist Church World Missionary work overseas, but was the first time so many people had been catered for in the new premises which include meeting rooms, a sports and social hall, a central café called The Hub, and a commercial kitchen, which celebrity chef, Tony Tobin, helped design.

“It was the first time the kitchen had been put to a real test and it went very well. The new equipment was excellent and it made a change to be able to keep the plates hot when serving the dinner,” said Joyce Hunt, who coordinated the meal.

Guests were invited to wear royal hats and among those joining in was Stewart Annetts, of Redhill, with his wife Dorothy (pictured here).  He said: “The community centre has been very well done with high quality fixtures and fittings. I think it will be a big asset for the town of Reigate and surrounding areas.”
