He might be the only man in his Zumba class, but Jonathan Framp is so taken with this Latin-inspired exercise that he is organising a Zumbathon.
The three hour fund-raising marathon will take place on Saturday, April 28, at Reigate Community Centre and will be tailored to encourage beginners and children, as well as regular `zumbathonians’.
“I think it is one of the best exercises around. It is like going to a party and I always come out with a smile,” said Jonathan, of South Nutfield who attends classes with his 14-year-old daughter Emma. “I am hoping the zumbathon will encourage more people to try Zumba while helping to raise funds for the running of the Reigate Community Centre.”
Four instructors will host the Zumbathon which will start at 1pm with a half hour warm-up and light dance, suitable for children and as well as adults. Then, there is an hour of normal Zumba for adults, followed by 30 minutes of Zumba Gold, designed for people not used to fitness classes. The last hour will be dedicated to pure party-style Zumba.
Entry fee is £5 per adult for all or part of the Zumbathon, and £2 for children joining the warm-up dance session. The community centre’s Hub Café will open all afternoon to provide welcome refreshments.
