Katya Yankova, from Reigate, will have her acting debut on Christmas Eve at the tender age of just eight-weeks-old. The baby girl will take on the huge role of being Jesus in a human tableau of the nativity scene, which will be revealed at the end of a festive children’s service this Saturday at Reigate Methodist Church.
Katya’s acting talents were spotted when she became the youngest member of the town’s newly-formed Reigate Methodist Toddler Group, which meets Tuesday mornings in the community centre, behind Marks & Spencer. Since it began in November, the toddler group has attracted more than 40 youngsters and their parents each week.
Organiser Mary Pulfer, said: “Every time I walked up the high street, I saw all these pushchairs crammed into the town’s cafes and knew there was a need in Reigate to have somewhere for parents, carers and their little one to meet and play. I can’t believe how successful it has been and it is wonderful that one of our new families has been chosen to take part in the church’s annual nativity tableau on Christmas Eve.”
The children’s service will begin at 4.30pm in Reigate Methodist Church and at the end of the service, the live tableau of the nativity scene will be revealed, with human statues. Katya, as baby Jesus, will be joined by mum, Alex, who will be Mary, dad, Mihail, as Joseph, and 20-month-old sister, Sophia, as a shepherd. “Katya is a really good baby so I think she will do just fine,” added her proud mum.
